WHAT YOU CAN BRING

Supported inputs.

One file at a time · Up to 50 MB
STEPCAD solid

.step / .stp

Neutral CAD exchange files. Curved surfaces are tessellated into a mesh.

IGESCAD surface

.iges / .igs

CAD curves and surfaces. Only tessellatable surfaces are exported.

STLTriangle mesh

.stl

Binary and ASCII STL geometry for 3D printing. No colors or units.

OBJPolygon mesh

.obj

Wavefront geometry. Companion MTL files and textures are not imported.

PLYPolygon mesh

.ply

Binary and ASCII polygon meshes. Point-cloud-only files are not supported.

GLB3D scene

.glb

Self-contained glTF binary files. Static triangle geometry is converted.

GLTF3D scene

.gltf

Self-contained glTF JSON with embedded buffers. External files are not loaded.

WHAT YOU CAN TAKE AWAY

Four useful destinations.

STL

3D printing · binary mesh

OBJ

3D editing · geometry only

GLB

Web & AR · untextured mesh

PLY

Mesh workflows · binary mesh

Geometry comes first.

Exports include static triangle geometry and normals. Materials, textures, animations, CAD features, and automatic mesh repair are outside this version. STEP and IGES are input formats only. Compressed, rigged, and animated glTF models are not supported.

THE SMALL PRINT, MADE SIMPLE

A few good questions.

Everything else you might want to know.

Are my model files uploaded?

No. Your selected model is read and converted inside your browser. The site downloads the conversion engine when needed, but does not send your model to a server. Closing the tab clears the working session.

Is this converter free?

Yes. The supported conversions are free to use, with no account required. The current limit is one file at a time, up to 50 MB and one million output triangles.

Can I convert STL into an editable STEP solid?

No. This version exports mesh formats only. It does not reconstruct CAD surfaces or parametric history from triangles, and it does not export STEP or IGES.

Will materials, textures, and animations be preserved?

This version focuses on static mesh geometry and normals. Exports use geometry only or a neutral material. Textures, animation, rigging, and CAD feature history are not retained. Animated or compressed glTF geometry may be rejected.

Why does my model have a different scale in another app?

Mesh coordinate values are preserved without automatic rescaling. STEP and IGES imports are normalized to millimeters. STL and OBJ do not reliably define units, while glTF usually uses meters. Check import units in the destination app.

Can I edit the model after converting it?

Yes. Download the result, then open a compatible mesh format in Reactor 3D to cut, combine, or modify the model in your browser. Your file is not automatically transferred between sites.
